5 Ways to “Trick” Yourself Into Going For a Run

Have you ever had one of those workouts that you just didn’t think you were going to get through. In your head, you know it will be awesome if you finish. You know you won’t regret the time you spend doing it. You know it’s worth it! But…in the moment…you’re thinking, “this is dumb. Why am I putting myself through this torture?!” Obviously, I don’t feel that way about running most days, but I’m sure I’m not the only one who has thoughts like that in the middle of a workout occasionally. So, I came up with a list of ways to “trick” yourself (or motivate yourself) into going for a run: 1. Bribery. No seriously. I’m pretty much always against...

Half Marathon Training Recap: Week 3 | Enjoying the Run

Half Marathon Training Recap: Week 3 (8/8-8/14)

Happy Monday! How was your weekend? This week was just okay. I got 4 runs in, but it just didn’t work out the way I had wanted it to. The first half of the week was fine, I got everything done. Friday was alright, I made it happen even if it wasn’t as long as I wanted it to be. Saturday was a little bit of a disappointment for me and I don’t even know why really. I got 5 miles in which is great for week 3. I think I was disappointed because, honestly, I just felt rushed. I could have stayed out and finished the 8 miles that I had planned, but my husband text me at mile...

Friday Favorites August 2016 | Enjoying the Run

Friday Favorites #17

Is anyone else staying up wwwaaaayyyy too late every night to watch the Olympics?! Every night I swear I’m going to bed once the kids are asleep and every night I’m looking at the clock at 11pm and saying to myself, “oh well, I’ll try to get to bed early tomorrow.” I don’t even know anything about most of these sports, but when they start showing the Olympics all of a sudden I’m a huge fencing, water polo, etc fan! At least this weekend the running events start so that’s something I at least know a little about. 🙂 In case you’re following along, I’m wrapping up Week 3 of Half Marathon training and so far, so good. (Recaps for...

An Ode to That Pile of Laundry | Enjoying the Run

An Ode to That Pile of Laundry

I’d like to dedicate this post to my in-laws. I apologize that you always seem to visit on laundry day…week… Ok, I have a confession to make: I have had the same 3 loads of laundry sitting on my couch for a week now. It’s bad, but there are just so many better things to spend time doing than laundry! If I had an extra income, it would definitely be going to a maid. Funny thing is, it’s not even that I don’t like doing laundry. I find it almost therapeutic. The stacks of neatly folded clothes appeal to the same part of my brain that loves file folders and color-coding. The only problem is that it seems to take...

Half Marathon Training Recap: Week 2 | Enjoying the Run

Half Marathon Training Recap: Week 2 (8/1-8/7)

This week started out a little slow for me, but ended on an awesome note! Check out my week 2 training recap: Half Marathon Training Recap: Week 2 (8/1-8/7) Monday (8/1) 2 easy miles with my dad at the park. We did walk/run intervals, but honestly I’m not sure how long they were because we were talking the whole time so I just let him pick when we ran. I know the walk breaks were a minute or less. It doesn’t really matter to me because it was time on my legs and a memory with my daddy. 🙂 Tuesday (8/2) Only did 1.74 miles because it was so ridiculously humid. I’m fine with being hot and sweating, but there’s a...

Friday Favorites August 2016 | Enjoying the Run

Friday Favorites #16

Happy Friday! I’m so glad it’s finally the weekend. J has been working a bunch of over time the last two weeks which has left me alone with the littles a lot. I love them, but sometimes they drive their mama a little crazy! We need J here to balance us all out so it’s tough when he’s gone. So to celebrate the fact that it’s Friday, I’m linking up with Heather to share some favorites from the week! Terra Sweet Potato chips – If you’ve not had these you’re seriously missing out. They’re delicious and so much better for you than regular potato chips. Gilmore Girls on Netflix – The new seasons start in November so I’m reminiscing and watching...

Road Trip Survival Tips with Toddler and Baby | Enjoying the Run

How We Survived a 13-Hour Road Trip With A Toddler and a Baby

In case you missed it, we went to Florida for summer vacation this year. Something I didn’t mention before was that we actually drove to Florida. This road trip was NOT an easy feat with both kids. And we took our 2-door Toyota just to make it really interesting. Somehow, we did manage to survive the trip there and back, but I learned some very valuable lessons. In case anyone else ever has the bright idea to try something as crazy as a 13-hour road trip with 2 kids under 3 years old. Here are some tips to get you through it:   Think carefully when deciding what time to leave for your road trip. Some people would tell you to drive overnight,...

Half Marathon Training Recap: Week 1 | Enjoying the Run

Half Marathon Training Recap: Week 1 (7/25-7/31)

That’s a wrap! …on week 1 anyway. Finished up my first week of half marathon training and so far, so good. My only real “complaint” is that I have to take the stroller on nearly every run. It’s not that bad really, and I know I’m lucky to have 2 really nice jogging strollers when a lot of moms would kill to have one. It’s just really hard to manage sometimes! See my previous (slightly sarcastic, but so very real) post on what it takes just to get out the door. Stroller running is tough, but I have to admit, the older E gets, the more fun her commentary is. Usually. Right now she’s obsessed with pointing out every place...

Vacation Photos: St. George Island, FL

It’s Friday! I can’t believe it’s already been 2 weeks since we got home from vacation. Time flies! We had such a great time I wanted to share a few pictures from the week. We started the trip visiting my brother and sister-in-law in Jacksonville. We had a nice couple days visiting the zoo and the beach. We also had a chance to make them some freezer meals because they’re expecting a baby girl this fall. I’m going to be an aunt! So exciting 🙂 The tigers at the zoo have a HUGE habitat, but once a day the zookeepers bring them into this building for a “tiger chat” where you can ask questions and see them up close. It...

At-Home Strength Workout: August | Enjoying the Run

At-Home Strength Workout: August

It’s so humid! Seems like I’m surprised by it every summer. Everything will be great and the weather is warm, but you can still sit outside comfortably and then…BAM! It’s SO HUMID you can’t breathe!! Thank goodness for the neighborhood pool 🙂 One nice thing about the humidity is that it makes me want to workout inside for a change. Which is convenient since that’s where all our weights are located. I’m not sure how I’m going to fit these strength workouts in during my half marathon training, but I know I need to. First of all, they make me a better runner. But also, I love doing strength training. I love getting stronger. I love what it does for my...
