To Marathon or Not to Marathon

I kind of have it in my head that I might possibly could somehow some day (sooner rather than later?!) run a marathon. Is that crazy? Not the 26.2. I mean, that does sound a little crazy, but in my mind I can envision how a person could accomplish the feat if they were trained to do so. I’d even go so far as to say I could finish the distance today if I were given enough time to do it. I’d be walking a lot and in a lot of pain, but if I had to do it for the sake of my children (or even something a little less dramatic) I could make it happen. The “crazy” I’m talking about...

Flying Pig Half Marathon Training Recap: Week 2 | Enjoying the Run

Flying Pig Half Training Recap: Week 2 (3/6-3/12)

Happy Monday! How was your weekend? We were busy as usual around here, but all of it was time spent with family and friends in one way or another. 🙂 Yes, I realize I’m starting with Week 2 here instead of Week 1, but I’m going according to my training plan so I don’t get confused! 🙂  So, here goes… Monday (3/6) Unintentional rest day. Frankly, I had a 6-hour workshop at work the next day that I was co-presenting with my boss and I just worked late and didn’t take the time to run. In hindsight, it probably would’ve been good for me to have just taken a 20-minute break and get some miles in for stress-relief, but oh...

And we’re back!

After a longer hiatus than I wanted, I’m back to the blog! There were many reasons I opted to take a break, but the main one was that Baby L did not sleep through the night one. single. night. during his first year of life. Every bit of my energy was used up on taking care of things that I needed to do to keep myself and my family healthy (and pay the bills!). So, long story short, here are the important things you’d need to know to about the basics of life since my last post: Baby L finally got tubes in his ears and has slept almost every night since!! This has been life-changing for me because I...

Half Marathon Training Update | Enjoying the Run

Half Marathon Training Update!

Hey there! Long time, no update…oops… Let’s be honest, I have a full-time job, my youngest still is not sleeping through the night (or for any stretch longer than 4 hours), and I just finished the highest mileage week of training for this half marathon. In short, I’ve had no spare time at all. I guess I could give up some time with my family, but that’s not gonna happen 😉 So anyway, here’s an update on training for the Monumental Half Marathon which is only 2 weeks away! On sticking with the plan: I think I’ve actually done better this round that I’ve ever done with a half marathon training plan. I talked about my training in a past...

Half Marathon Training Recap: Week 4 | Enjoying the Run

Half Marathon Training Recap: Week 4 (8/15-8/21)

Week 4 is done! I learned a lot about myself this week: I do pretty well staying hydrated, but I definitely need to do better with eating well during the day. I work from home and you’d think that means I have access to good food all day, but what it really means is that I think “oh I’m kinda hungry” and then I think about taking the time to prepare and actual lunch and decide it’s easier to just keep working and snack on things rather than just take 20-30 minutes for a decent lunch. I feel more secure running with the stroller. I know this seems odd, but I’m so used to having it with me and being...

Friday Favorites #18

Hey there! Happy Friday! How was your week? We’re still dealing with a teething baby here in our household so we aren’t getting a whole lot of sleep, but we’re managing. I don’t remember it being this bad with Little E. She was fussy for a few days and then she had teeth and that was that. Baby L has never slept for longer than a 4-hour stretch. He’s 6 months old. Now, he at least goes back to sleep better than he used to so my nights are a little more restful, but I’m dreaming of a day when he lets me sleep for an entire 8+ hour night!! I’m nearing the end of week 4 of half marathon training!...

5 Ways to “Trick” Yourself Into Going For a Run

Have you ever had one of those workouts that you just didn’t think you were going to get through. In your head, you know it will be awesome if you finish. You know you won’t regret the time you spend doing it. You know it’s worth it! But…in the moment…you’re thinking, “this is dumb. Why am I putting myself through this torture?!” Obviously, I don’t feel that way about running most days, but I’m sure I’m not the only one who has thoughts like that in the middle of a workout occasionally. So, I came up with a list of ways to “trick” yourself (or motivate yourself) into going for a run: 1. Bribery. No seriously. I’m pretty much always against...

Half Marathon Training Recap: Week 3 | Enjoying the Run

Half Marathon Training Recap: Week 3 (8/8-8/14)

Happy Monday! How was your weekend? This week was just okay. I got 4 runs in, but it just didn’t work out the way I had wanted it to. The first half of the week was fine, I got everything done. Friday was alright, I made it happen even if it wasn’t as long as I wanted it to be. Saturday was a little bit of a disappointment for me and I don’t even know why really. I got 5 miles in which is great for week 3. I think I was disappointed because, honestly, I just felt rushed. I could have stayed out and finished the 8 miles that I had planned, but my husband text me at mile...

Friday Favorites #17

Is anyone else staying up wwwaaaayyyy too late every night to watch the Olympics?! Every night I swear I’m going to bed once the kids are asleep and every night I’m looking at the clock at 11pm and saying to myself, “oh well, I’ll try to get to bed early tomorrow.” I don’t even know anything about most of these sports, but when they start showing the Olympics all of a sudden I’m a huge fencing, water polo, etc fan! At least this weekend the running events start so that’s something I at least know a little about. 🙂 In case you’re following along, I’m wrapping up Week 3 of Half Marathon training and so far, so good. (Recaps for...

An Ode to That Pile of Laundry | Enjoying the Run

An Ode to That Pile of Laundry

I’d like to dedicate this post to my in-laws. I apologize that you always seem to visit on laundry day…week… Ok, I have a confession to make: I have had the same 3 loads of laundry sitting on my couch for a week now. It’s bad, but there are just so many better things to spend time doing than laundry! If I had an extra income, it would definitely be going to a maid. Funny thing is, it’s not even that I don’t like doing laundry. I find it almost therapeutic. The stacks of neatly folded clothes appeal to the same part of my brain that loves file folders and color-coding. The only problem is that it seems to take...
