Running Month in Review: November 2017 | Enjoying the Run

Running Month in Review: November 2017

November 2017. It’s been a weird month. Actually, it’s kind of been a weird 5 months. Ever since July I’ve felt off-schedule and off-balance. I don’t think the holidays are going to do much to sort that out for me so I’ll probably just need to continue this balancing act until January. Anyway… Running month in review: November 2017 The month started off with a race – not a very great running moment for me, but I learned some valuable lessons. You get out of it what you put into it. I intend to take that thought into training with me this spring for sure. After the Monumental Half, I was on my game for about a week and a...

How to Prepare for a 1-Hour Stroller Run (or longer!)

Being a mother runner is hard enough as it is. You have to worry about fitting your run into everyone else’s schedule, what you might be sacrificing to fit your run in (who needs clean clothes anyway, amiright?), and the fact that you probably won’t have time to stretch/foam roll/recover when you get home. When you add a stroller to all that – it can just seem impossible. But it’s not! With a little planning and a lot of practice, the stroller run can become your new favorite long run. I started pushing a stroller during my runs when our daughter was about 6 months old. I now regularly push both kids in a double stroller a few times per...

To Marathon or Not to Marathon | Enjoying the Run

To Marathon or Not to Marathon

I kind of have it in my head that I might possibly could somehow some day (sooner rather than later?!) run a marathon. Is that crazy? Not the 26.2. I mean, that does sound a little crazy, but in my mind I can envision how a person could accomplish the feat if they were trained to do so. I’d even go so far as to say I could finish the distance today if I were given enough time to do it. I’d be walking a lot and in a lot of pain, but if I had to do it for the sake of my children (or even something a little less dramatic) I could make it happen. The “crazy” I’m talking about...

5 Ways to “Trick” Yourself Into Going For a Run

Have you ever had one of those workouts that you just didn’t think you were going to get through. In your head, you know it will be awesome if you finish. You know you won’t regret the time you spend doing it. You know it’s worth it! But…in the moment…you’re thinking, “this is dumb. Why am I putting myself through this torture?!” Obviously, I don’t feel that way about running most days, but I’m sure I’m not the only one who has thoughts like that in the middle of a workout occasionally. So, I came up with a list of ways to “trick” yourself (or motivate yourself) into going for a run: 1. Bribery. No seriously. I’m pretty much always against...

At-Home Strength Workout: August | Enjoying the Run

At-Home Strength Workout: August

It’s so humid! Seems like I’m surprised by it every summer. Everything will be great and the weather is warm, but you can still sit outside comfortably and then…BAM! It’s SO HUMID you can’t breathe!! Thank goodness for the neighborhood pool 🙂 One nice thing about the humidity is that it makes me want to workout inside for a change. Which is convenient since that’s where all our weights are located. I’m not sure how I’m going to fit these strength workouts in during my half marathon training, but I know I need to. First of all, they make me a better runner. But also, I love doing strength training. I love getting stronger. I love what it does for my...

Workout Recap: 5K Week 4 | Enjoying the Run

Little E’s 1st Soccer Game + Workout Recap

Hi there! How was your weekend? Ours was so exciting because Little E had her first soccer “game”! It’s hard to really call it a game because they are all 2-4 years old and it’s really just drills, but they have uniforms and everything. So cute! I played soccer from the time I was 9 all the way through intramurals in college so I was one proud mama on Saturday! Obviously, we will let her try out different activities so she can pick what she enjoys, but I won’t be upset if she sticks with soccer and running long-term 😉 I took the littles out for a nice, long stroll on Sunday because the weather here was PERFECT for napping in...

How to Take Kids on a Stroller Run in 53 Easy Steps | Enjoying the Run

How to Take Kids on a Stroller Run in 53 Easy Steps

Decide to get some miles in today. Find clean clothes for yourself. Realize you haven’t done the laundry in a week and febreeze your favorite sports bra. Put on running shoes. When I can only find one, have a flashback to toddler wearing them around pretending to be you. Look everywhere in her room and your room for the other shoe. Find it behind the door in the downstairs bathroom. Ask toddler if she needs to potty. Pick out clothes for toddler. Argue with her about why she should wear pants. Hear yourself say, “because I said so.” Mentally cross that phrase off the list of Things my mom said to me that I’ll never say to my kids. Force...

Workout Recap 5K Week 2 | Enjoying the Run

Workout Recap: March 28

Workout Recap: Week of March 28 5K Training – Week 2 Welp. Once again, this week went nothing like I was planning. I think it’s going to take a while to figure out this whole running-consistently-while-raising-two-babies thing. One baby I could handle. Everything revolved around her schedule, but at least there was some sort of schedule to follow. With two of them it’s incredibly hard to sync everything up just right. I know it will get better as they get older. It’s just tough right now. I’m just glad I got 3 runs in this week. Monday – rest day – I think maybe it was raining or something. Honestly, I can’t remember what happened to keep me from my...

Big Easter Weekend + Last Week’s Workout Recap

Hi! So I’m a day late in posting this, but it’s just been that kind of week already 🙂 It’s 9:00 and both of my children are asleep. This. has. never. happened. So, I’ve poured myself a glass of wine and I’m going to type fast because I’m sure someone will be up in the next 45 minutes. This weekend was awesome! Friday night the grandparents took the kids so J and I could head out to dinner with friends. It was technically a late celebration of my birthday, but really I just needed to get out and do something with grown-ups before going back to work! I already posted this on Instagram, but in case you missed it here’s the one...

At-Home Strength Workout: April | Enjoying the Run

At-Home Strength Workout: April

Happy #nationalpuppyday! To celebrate, here’s a picture of our lab right after we brought him home three years ago… He was so little and cuddly back then 🙂 Now he’s HUGE and a goofball and still very cuddly. This dog thinks he’s a lap dog and he must be on top of someone to sleep. He’s lucky he’s still cute and can usually get away with it. On to a strength workout update for the next month… What are your strength workouts looking like these days? I’m changing things up a little bit with my strength workouts for April. Since I’ve started running again I’m only going to do strength workouts two days per week next month. The training plan I’m...
