Freezer Cooking: 60+ Meals In 1 Day

What a weekend! Friday night and all day Saturday were spent on this fall’s Freezer Cooking session. Whew! Every few months I do a freezer cooking session, but this one was a whole new level. This time, Kayla and I decided to open up an offer to make meals for other people too. We told some friends and family about what we were doing and Kayla made this awesome Google Docs survey where people could order the quantities that they wanted. Once we knew how much of each recipe we were making it was time to get down to business. Prep Kayla and I have done this together before so we already had a little bit of a system going....

Race Recap: Indy Monumental Half Marathon 2017 | Enjoying the Run

Race Recap: Indy Monumental Half Marathon 2017

Half marathon #6 is done – and it was a doozy. Let’s start with the easy stuff, shall we? Race Logistics – Monumental Half Marathon This is the third time I’ve run this race so there weren’t many surprises for me here. Expo and Packet Pick-Up There is no race-day packet pick-up for the Monumental because there are over 20,000 runners so it’s just too big. They have a 2-day expo downtown Indy the Thursday and Friday before the race. I went on Friday late morning so I wouldn’t have to deal with traffic later in the day. Luckily, I save my vacation days at work for such occasions as these so I was able to take a half day....

Thoughts Before the Monumental Half | Enjoying the Run

Some Thoughts Before the Monumental Half…

This post is probably going to boring to read. Sorry about that. I just need to get some thoughts down and out of my head before I run on Saturday. I’ve been second-guessing my decision to run the Monumental Half for the past 2 weeks. I’m not trained the way I thought’d I be and it’s really been discouraging. When I originally started training for this race I was going to attempt to break 2 hours. That’s just not going to happen and I’m coming to terms with that. I think I knew that goal was off the table a few weeks ago. Training has been all over the place because of some odd things going on with Hubby’s work...

How to Prepare for a 1-Hour Stroller Run (or longer!)

Being a mother runner is hard enough as it is. You have to worry about fitting your run into everyone else’s schedule, what you might be sacrificing to fit your run in (who needs clean clothes anyway, amiright?), and the fact that you probably won’t have time to stretch/foam roll/recover when you get home. When you add a stroller to all that – it can just seem impossible. But it’s not! With a little planning and a lot of practice, the stroller run can become your new favorite long run. I started pushing a stroller during my runs when our daughter was about 6 months old. I now regularly push both kids in a double stroller a few times per...

A Quick Update 10.26.17 | Enjoying the Run

A Quick Update – Oct 2017

Hey there! So…it’s been a minute… life got a little crazy again and other things had to take priority over this little blog. πŸ™‚ But things are getting back to normal and I want to continue documenting my running journey so here goes nothing. An update about all the things: Family Hubby is working a lot right now because of some staffing issues at work so it’s affecting the whole schedule of life at home. We’re working around it, but, MAN! it’s been hard. Luckily, there’s a light at the end of this tunnel and things should be back to normal-ish by the end of November. I’m so grateful that he works so hard to provide for us, but I’ll...

My First Flight with Oiselle | Enjoying the Run

My First Flight with Oiselle

When I went to bed Friday night, I pulled it from the drawer where I keep my running clothes. When I woke up Saturday morning it was hanging up in my bathroom, right where I left it. I put my contacts in, pulled my hair into a ponytail, and stared at it. Was today the day? The first day I was going to wear it outside the house? “It’s just a shirt.” I told myself that to take the pressure off. But if it’s just a piece of clothing then why in the world do I have such mixed emotions about it?! Finally, I decided. Today is the day. Today is the day that I will wear my Oiselle singlet...

Half Marathon Training Recap: Week 6 | Enjoying the Run

Flying Pig Training Recap: Week 6 (4/3-4/9)

Not a great week for me (except Saturday). I lacked focus and drive all week long. πŸ™ Focus this week: I’ll admit it. I didn’t set any kind of intention or goal for this week. I like to set something to focus on because it keeps me from getting overwhelmed, but this week kind of started without me (is that even a thing?) so I just rode the wave and you can tell by the amount of running I actually did. Monday (4/3) 2 mile walk. I just wasn’t feeling it today. Not sure why the lack of motivation. Tuesday (4/4) Strength day. Did some of my own stuff and then a video with Little E. I had planned on...

Half Marathon Training Recap: Week 5 | Enjoying the Run

Flying Pig Half Training Recap: Week 5 (3/27-4/2)

Well, I fell a week behind on my updates so you’ll get TWO posts today! Woohoo! This week’s focus: 28+ miles for the week plus 2 strength workouts – I wanted to see if I could fit it all in. Monday (3/27) 4 easy miles. I was supposed to meet up with Hannah to run at a park, but there were storms in the forecast so we decided it was better to cancel than to get the all the kids in the stroller and then get rained out. So, when the clouds broke up, I ended up taking the kids out on my own and hustling through 4 easy miles with the double stroller so I could get back and...

Half Marathon Training Recap: Week 4 | Enjoying the Run

Flying Pig Half Training Recap: Week 4 (3/20-3/26)

This week’s workouts started off great and then kind of fell off from there (with the exception of my long run). This week’s focus: Make sure “easy” runs are at an “easy” pace. I’m hoping this shorter training plan will help me avoid that blah feeling I usually get in the middle of training for something, but the only way that is going to work is if I actually run each workout at it’s designated speed. Monday (3/20) Ice cream sandwich. This was so fun! It was supposed to be our Wednesday workout, but Hannah and I happened to be running together on Monday this week so we decided to just get it done while we were together. I was...

Half Marathon Training Recap: Week 3 | Enjoying the Run

Flying Pig Half Training Recap: Week 3 (3/13-3/19)

How is it Tuesday already?? I wish I could say that I just over-slept and Monday got away from me, but that’s not how it happened. The weekend was packed full and it overflowed into Monday and now here we are. Almost hump day and I’m just now reflecting on last week’s training. Oh well!   This week’s focus: Run 5 days and do 2 strength workouts just to prove to myself that I can! Monday (3/13) Easy 3 miles. Did this one on the treadmill during nap time. I broke it up with a few walk breaks out of sheer boredom and then ended up racing at the end to finish because Baby L woke up. Tuesday (3/14) Easy...
